Job Title: Assistant Nurse Manager Operating Room (OR)
Location: Onsite San Jose, CA, US (Main Hospital)
Schedule: Monday Friday | 12:00 PM 8:30 PM
Administrative call rotated every 8 weeks
Job Type: Permanent
Salary Range: As per Exp.
Additional Compensation:

  • Sign-on Bonus: 10% of base salary

  • Annual Bonus: Up to 7.5% of base salary

Job Summary

Client's San Jose Medical Center is seeking an experienced and compassionate Assistant Nurse Manager (OR) to support the leadership and daily operations of our high-volume, fast-paced Operating Room. This role is integral to maintaining the highest standards of surgical patient care and supports a dynamic, experienced team in one of Northern California's most respected healthcare institutions.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the OR unit including clinical practice standards, staffing, payroll, budgeting, and compliance with quality improvement and safety initiatives.

  • Lead a team of 20 60+ employees during a shift, with up to 30 direct reports, ensuring compliance with patient care standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop staff through coaching, performance feedback, and implementation of developmental action plans.

  • Supervise unit activities such as resource allocation, scheduling, and patient care coordination to maintain optimal care quality and cost efficiency.

  • Actively manage risk, patient safety, and service quality; resolve patient or family concerns and support customer-focused care models.

  • Coordinate with other healthcare units to optimize patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

  • Conduct research on best practices and implement improvements to elevate the quality of services provided.

Qualifications

Required (Non-Negotiable):

  • Current California Registered Nurse License (Permanent, not temporary)

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher

  • Minimum two (2) years of nursing experience , including charge nurse, preceptor, or related leadership roles

  • Minimum two (2) years of Operating Room (OR) experience

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal/state/local healthcare regulations, and quality standards

  • Strong interpersonal communication and team leadership skills

  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):

  • Advanced degree : MSN, MHA, or MBA

  • CNOR certification

  • Experience scheduling teams or managing surgical case flow

  • Background in unionized healthcare settings

  • Calm under pressure, effective communicator, skilled in mentoring and training junior staff

  • ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications (department-specific requirements may apply)
