As an Underwriting Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in underwriting and negotiating auto loans and terms directly with our dealership partners. Your primary responsibility will be to review and make decisions on submitted loan applications. When appropriate, you will collaborate with dealers to restructure loans, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes for the dealership, the customer, and our company. The ideal candidate will possess a strong aptitude for numbers, exceptional negotiation skills, and a commitment to outstanding customer service. To support your success in this role, you will also participate in rotations within our sales, servicing, and funding teams, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of the loan lifecycle at Strike Acceptance.

What You're Doing

• Develop the judgment necessary to maintain a profitable book of business by reviewing and deciding on auto loans that come through the queue.
• Ensure that loan requests adhere to program and product specifications.
• Collaborate with dealer partners to structure or restructure deals as needed to align with program requirements.
• Assess the customer's ability to make car payments by analyzing all relevant financial information, ensuring that each deal is sound.
• Partner with dealerships and sales team members to educate them on the rationale behind credit decisions when necessary.
• Price business in accordance with company underwriting and pricing guidelines, ensuring that standards for service, timeliness, and quality are consistently met.
• Cultivate ongoing relationships with both internal and external customers.
• Monitor the profitability and quality of submissions while staying informed about underwriting and policy changes.
• Build relationships with dealers through phone and in-person interactions to help expand the Strike book of business.
• Achieve monthly goals related to production, profitability, and service.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
• Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities; bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
• Proven negotiation skills, with the ability to reach favorable outcomes for all parties involved.
• Capacity to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to identify inconsistencies and resolve issues with minimal guidance.
• Excellent customer service skills, with a talent for building positive relationships with both customers and colleagues; adept at connecting with dealer partners over the phone.
• Availability to work 2-3 Saturdays per month and flexibility to accommodate late shifts, such as 10 AM to 7 PM, as needed.
• A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in customer service, underwriting, or sales within the auto finance industry.
