Position Summary:

Manages and supervises daily operation of the Branch Service Department activities and employees. Strives to achieve monthly and annual Branch budget goals. Sets technician expectations to achieve growth in individual skill sets, achieve optimum work product efficiency, and to determine if individual employees are desired for retention or redeployment outside Rihm Kenworth.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

Company and Operations:

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of union and non-union employees, fostering a collaborative and respectful workplace.
  • In conjunction with Controller, Branch Manager and Director of Service, develops monthly and annual department budget goals
  • Contributes to achievement of department goals and objectives
  • Always stays abreast of activities/work in the shop
  • Provides service estimates to customers in conjunction with Service Advisors
  • Reviews and assists in closing ROs for invoicing or the Warranty Dept within 2 days of last touch by a technician
  • Understands and ensures compliance with warranty and policy
  • Interacts with factory and vendor representatives
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers
  • Directly interacts with customers, direct reports and fellow employees to achieve best customer outcomes
  • Reviews service complaints/issues and effectively takes appropriate action
  • Maintains required and needed tool inventory
  • Maintains a safe and compliant working environment
  • Maintains a professional appearance
  • Attends management meetings when requested
  • Other duties as assigned to meet business requirements.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervises day-to-day activities of branch Service employees: technicians, service advisors, lot porters
  • Directly oversees and works with the Service Advisors to achieve best customer outcomes
  • Participates in decision making process regarding employment actions such as hiring, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, terminations, etc.
  • Trains, motivates, mentors, monitors and reviews employee performance
  • Coaches and takes corrective and disciplinary action, especially regarding safety matters, accidents and near misses
  • Strives for teamwork and positive employee relations within department and with other departments
  • Oversees implementation and maintenance of employee training schedule
  • Monitors/manages technician time records and approves for payroll
  • Holds regular employee meetings to foster open two-way communication and meet employee training and development needs

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ experience automotive or truck service department experience
  • 5+ years of successful supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in business or management
  • At least 2 years of experience managing unionized staff.
