**Job Title: Detention Specialist**

**Position Type:** Non-Sworn

We are a leading detention facility dedicated to maintaining a secure and safe environment for both staff and detainees. Our team is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

**Position Overview:**
We are seeking a Detention Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for the operation of our facility's Control Center, which serves as the communications hub for security operations, including emergency communications. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work as a Receptionist, providing a welcoming and professional environment for visitors and staff.

**Duties and Responsibilities:**

**Control Center:**
- Communicate with staff, the public, visitors, and other agencies using our telephone, intercom, and radio systems.
- Ensure the security of the facility by controlling all access and departures, verifying identification and permissions.
- Manage internal movement of staff and detainees through remote operation of gates and doors.
- Monitor and respond to emergency system alarms.
- Maintain accurate records and logs.
- Issue and receive equipment, keys, and other items according to facility policy.
- Keep the Control Center clean and organized.
- Sort and forward shift paperwork to the appropriate staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Reception Desk:**
- Serve as the primary contact person during regular business hours.
- Screen and direct incoming calls to the appropriate extensions.
- Greet and assist public and official visitors, addressing their concerns by contacting appropriate staff.
- Answer questions related to detainees.
- Assist with detainee visitation and perform tasks outlined in the Reception Officer Post Order.
- Support the Mail Clerk as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Education and Experience:**
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

**Licenses and Certificates:**
- Valid driver's license.

**Physical Characteristics:**
- Good vision and hearing.
- Ability to walk, stoop, and bend.
- Capable of working under stressful conditions, in various temperatures, and around dust, odors, and noise.
- Ability to detect smoke from fire or specific prohibited substances.
- Proficient in using computers, telephones, and office equipment.
- Ability to work independently.

**Aptitude:**
- Maintain confidentiality of all facility information.
- Knowledge of office equipment operation principles and techniques.

**Temperament:**
- Deal tactfully and cordially with a variety of people from different backgrounds.
- Cope under stressful conditions and work within a confined area for prolonged periods.
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
- Punctual, professional in appearance, and possess a positive mental attitude.
- Command the respect and confidence of staff and detainees.
- Philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility.

**Ethos:**
- Abide by the Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and General Orders as presented in the facility's policies and procedures manual.
- Report for work at scheduled times.

**Schedule:**
- 10-hour shifts.
- Must be able to work every other weekend.
