Job Description

Are you passionate about human resources and eager to gain hands-on experience in a collaborative and mission-driven environment? We are looking for a dedicated Human Resources Intern to join our team and support key HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and policy research.

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering literacy and leadership among young readers and youth leaders. Through partnerships with schools and community programs, we provide meaningful educational experiences that create lasting impact. Since our founding, we have expanded to serve numerous students across the state, and we continue to grow each semester. As a mission-driven and supportive organization, we offer valuable professional development opportunities to our interns.

Internship Details

Reports To: HR Manager

Department: Operations

Schedule: 8-15 hours per week, within standard office hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM). Interns will follow a set schedule based on availability.

Work Environment: In-person, with possible remote/hybrid options

Start Dates: January (Spring), May/June (Summer), July/August (Fall)

Duration: 3-4 months (aligned with academic semesters)

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. However, we provide all necessary documentation for course credit if applicable.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with recruitment efforts, including applicant screening, phone interviews, interview scheduling, and outreach activities.

Support onboarding by preparing materials and coordinating orientation processes for new hires.

Organize and manage HR-related data, records, and employee files.

Conduct HR-related research, such as policies, laws, and best practices, and assist in drafting new policies.

Prepare reports and presentations on various HR topics.

Help plan employee engagement programs, professional development initiatives, and wellness activities.

Assist in organizing special events such as recruitment fairs and team-building activities.

Take on projects based on personal interests while aligning with organizational needs.

Provide general administrative support to the HR and Operations teams.

Required:

Strong interest in Human Resources, recruitment, or nonprofit work

Excellent communication, organizational, and research skills

Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism

Creative problem-solving mindset

Strong technology skills and willingness to learn new platforms

High school diploma or equivalent

Positive attitude and commitment to organizational values

Preferred:

Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in HR, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field

Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Office 365, Salesforce, Applicant Tracking Systems, Slack, and HRIS (ADP Workforce Now)
