Open Window School (K-8, coed, 360 student day school) is seeking highly qualified candidates for its K-8 Arts Associate Teacher position.

Position Overview

The K-8 Arts Associate Teacher will assist the Visual Arts, Music, and Drama programs. In middle school, this position will primarily support 5th and 6th grade art classes, provide costume/prop/set/backstage support for the four middle school dramatic productions of the school year, and be the go-to substitute for arts teachers. In the lower school, this position will support art, drama, and music through hands-on projects and subbing. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the arts, collaboration, and experience working with a large age range of students. This job requires flexibility, experience working in fast-paced work environments, organizational skills, and love for creative art forms. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are interested in learning and exploring valuable skills for future lead teaching opportunities, understanding independent schools and entering graduate programs in the field.

Major Areas of Responsibility/Specific Duties:

  • Assisting with the teaching of arts classes in both lower and middle school (art, drama, and music).
  • Assisting drama productions with organization, set/prop/costume creation, running sound and lights, etc.
  • Assisting with the organization, maintenance, and inventory of the art supplies and equipment of the art studios.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks such as photocopying, mounting displays, organizing equipment, etc.
  • Assisting with the planning, set-up, and break-down of Winter Arts Night and Spring Arts Night.
  • Assuming a lead role in any arts class when necessary.
  • Working collaboratively with other teachers to support cross-disciplinary projects.
  • Attending required in-service days, meetings, seminars, training sessions and other relevant school events.
  • Chaperoning occasional field trips (all grades) and possible overnight hallmark experiences.
  • Engaging in self-assessment and working toward professional goals.
  • Rotating coverage duties for lunch, recess and dismissal and occasional before care or afterschool study hall coverage .
  • Other duties as needed and assigned.

Qualities & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant experience.
  • Experience working with lower and middle school students. 
  • An interest in the social-emotional development of children from early childhood through early adolescents .
  • Experience in the arts (visual arts, drama, music, etc.) and the artistic process.
  • A self-starter who anticipates needs, takes initiative, and actively contributes to solutions without waiting for direction.

Position Details:

Manager: Arts Team Lead

Compensation: $47,017 per year

Position Classification: Exempt, Full Time (10 month school year), benefit eligible

Hours: 8am – 4pm, 5pm on Tuesdays. Occasional after school, weekend and evening work required.
