Under the supervision of the Office Services Supervisor II, C.F., this position is assigned to the Mailroom. Duties include but are not limited to the following. Cell mark incoming incarcerated person’s mail utilizing the SOMS housing system. Open, and search incoming incarcerated person’s mail. Stamp and receipt any incoming mail that has stamps, photos, and stamped envelopes enclosed. Remove and forward visiting forms, checks and money orders. Processing outgoing mail through the postage meter machine for the institution and incarcerated people. Sort and pitch processed mail for delivery to housing units. Perform a variety of specialized Mailroom functions such as incoming and outgoing legal mail, indigent incarcerated people’s mail, processing inmate trust withdrawal forms, processing incarcerated person appeals and request for interview. Research and respond to GA-22 forms. Preparation of the return to sender items for incarcerated people and other related documents. Separate mail containing unauthorized items, complete Notification of Disapproval for Mail/Packages/Publications (CDCR 1819 form). Process incoming and outgoing GLS Mail. Complete daily tool log. Regularly perform a variety of specialized office duties such as filing and answering telephone calls Provide general information to the public and staff. Maintain a cooperative, interacting relationship with staff and the public. Process Warehouse Stationery and Household supply orders as designated by Mailroom Supervisor. Process Check/Money Order Logs, Request for Correspondence Approval Log and process re-route mail. Help with mail deliveries when needed.

San Quentin Rehab Center is California’s oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time. The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin. The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum-security firehouse.
