What you'll be doing...

Verizon's Corporate Communications team is looking for a strategic and experienced Sr. Manager of Policy Communications who is tapped into environmental responsibility / disaster resilience, social good, and public affairs to join their high-impact team. This role will report into the Sr. Director of Policy, Responsible Business, Legal and Security Communications.

This role will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to elevate Verizon’s Responsible Business plan. You will serve as the Communications Business Partner to the Chief Responsible Business Officer, as well as partner with the public affairs, legal and government affairs teams to highlight Verizon’s leadership in disaster resilience, environmental responsibility and advocacy on critical policy issues.

You will work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and a range of external partners, utilizing owned media channels, storytelling, and earned and paid media opportunities to raise awareness for Verizon’s efforts.

You must be a self-starting, creative innovator with direct experience writing for and supporting senior-level executives. You should also exhibit a strong command of the digital and media landscape, superior business acumen, and the ability to manage projects and people autonomously. You must be able to be a trusted, strategic counselor to senior leaders in Policy and beyond.

Most of all, you share our belief that people are our most important asset. You know the value of a great leader—and how inspiring and empowering it can be to work for one. You’re driven to help your clients be better leaders and believe in everyone’s potential to grow. You’re a great listener — people naturally approach you for help and advice. And you enjoy partnering with your clients to solve complex problems and, in the process, make us better every day.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Verizon’s Chief Responsible Business Officer and partnering with Government Affairs, Responsible Business, Strategic Alliances and Legal to develop integrated communications strategies and compelling narratives for Verizon’s policy priorities, regulatory engagements and responsible business initiatives.

  • Designing innovative and audience-centric ways of delivering engaging content across a mix of channels to elevate communications with policy makers, employees, and other stakeholders.

  • Monitoring the legislative and regulatory landscape to identify proactive storytelling opportunities and respond to developing issues.

  • Managing top-tier media relationships and external partnerships to promote Verizon’s impact and commitment to responsible business practices.

  • Providing strategic guidance on messaging and effective communications by helping subject matter experts translate complex information into easy-to-understand, actionable and compelling content.

  • Collaborating with internal teams and managing agency partners to support Verizon campaigns and other engagement opportunities.

  • Measuring the success of communications and making suggestions to optimize future communications plans.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Communications experience.

  • Experience in public affairs communications, with a keen understanding of policy-centric audiences.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Exceptional communication, thought leadership and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated success as a Communications Business Partner to a C-suite executive in a multi-national, matrixed organization.

  • Extreme attention to detail; holds internal and external partners to the same high standards.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, pivot quickly, and respond with urgency.

  • Sound business judgment and experience “connecting the dots” across topics.

  • A desire to make a difference and collaborate with a shared purpose.

  • Superb critical thinking skills and the ability to take a concept from ideation and strategy to execution autonomously.

  • Tenacious content creation skills, constant curiosity, and a fascination for the world of technology and its broader societal impact.

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
