Job Description
You will be responsible for underwriting residential loans to ensure compliance with company standards, secondary market investor requirements, and all relevant laws. Your role will involve reviewing loan documentation for accuracy and completeness while collaborating closely with Loan Originators, Branch Managers, and Processors to ensure all necessary documents are obtained.
Key Responsibilities:
Follow established guidelines to receive and review loan applications and related documentation, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy in line with HECM guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Maintain acceptable timelines for initial decisions and condition reviews to meet departmental expectations.
Work alongside the Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding teams to resolve any issues, assess risks, and address compliance concerns.
Continuously develop and apply a strong understanding of HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools.
Modify loan terms as necessary, identifying any additional conditions required to ensure a viable credit decision.
Review borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary reports, judgments, bankruptcy records, and appraisals. Ensure all necessary documents are requested to support final loan decisions.
Demonstrate proficiency in manual underwriting processes and procedures.
Maintain knowledge of secondary market practices and industry trends to ensure underwriting quality and efficient origination activity.
Foster effective communication and maintain positive working relationships with loan originators, management, and processors.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in residential loan underwriting.
DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience are highly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of FHA/HECM policies and procedures.
Strong understanding of various fraud detection tools.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Excellent relationship management skills with internal and external partners.
Previous experience in mortgage processing is a plus.
Experience with repurchase response and/or rebuttal review and response preparation.
Strong ability to analyze, interpret, and report on underwriting data with critical thinking.
