Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager (SSM) III in the Information Technology Development Section, the SSM I (SPEC) serves as a project manager, lead, and subject matter expert for the successful implementation of new legislation requiring system enhancements and modifications for the Bureau of Firearms (BOF) in response to new legislation, system enhancements, and general security updates. The SSM I (SPEC) must act as a subject-matter generalist for all regulatory sections of the BOF. The SSM I (SPEC) will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and administering the tasks and functions associated with the development of business requirements, system enhancements, and testing and training of new processes in response to new legislative requirements. The SSM I (SPEC) will represent the BOF during all development meetings with the Application Development Bureau (ADB) and stakeholders of the California Department of Technology (CDT) , as well as conduct meetings with BOF stakeholders; and must be able to make time-sensitive, independent decisions impacting BOF programs and system improvement IT enhancement projects. The timelines and due dates associated with the various projects will vary therefore, there is no room for error or delay. The SSM I (SPEC) will provide legislative input and assistance with new and revised documentation and project plans. The incumbent must have considerable knowledge of the BOF’s policies and programs.
